VVVVIC
VVVVIC
"VVVVIC" is a VIC 20 port of Markus "Notch" Persson's 2010 Java4K game contest entry VVVV (itself a demake tribute to Terry Cavanagh's VVVVVV).
Rescue your six stranded crewmen from a deadly alien world. Survive spikes, collapsing platforms, and treacherous gravity — with the power to flip it at will.
Requirements
- Commodore VIC-20 with 24K RAM expansion
- PAL or NTSC — the game auto-detects and adapts physics and screen geometry
Controls
| Input | Action |
|---|---|
| Joystick Left / A | Move left |
| Joystick Right / D | Move right |
| Joystick Fire / W / V / Space / Cursor Up-Down | Flip gravity |
| Fire or F1 | Start (title screen) |
Gravity can only be flipped while the player is standing on a surface (i.e. when vertical velocity is zero).

Gameplay
Goal
Six crewmen are hidden across the 32-room world. Walk into a crewman to rescue them. The world wraps horizontally — run off the right edge of the last room and you reappear at the left edge of the first.
When all six are rescued the game ends with a victory screen.
HUD
The HUD is displayed in yellow text in the border columns flanking the room:
- Left border top (V:) — Remaining crew to be rescued.
- Left border bottom (D:) - Death count.
- Right border (T:) — Game time.
If you win the game, then try to win next time with fewer deaths and less time.
Death and Checkpoints
Touching a spike kills the player instantly. After a brief flash (the player sprite turns red), play resumes from the last activated checkpoint. The death counter increments on every death.
Checkpoints save the current gravity direction, so respawning on a ceiling checkpoint restores upward gravity.
